Except for a brief visit downstairs for lunch, Mara stayed in her room all day. The sun was shining and Madison Square Park beckoned. We came close to going for a walk, but Mara decided it was wiser to just take it very easy today: back to bed. She has not felt fit for several days and is a little shaky after yesterday's incident.
Carol has cooked wonderful dinners. This picture was taken Friday evening. On Saturday, Elise said good bye before flying back to Sweden.
The last picture shows Mara eating yogurt and rehydrating with drinks by her bed. She is wearing a great hat that Laura sent -kindness of Anna - from Portland, Oregon.
Today an incredible lunch arrived: bagels, lox, cream cheese with chives, white fish, herring, cole slaw, pickles, all from Murray's, a famous New York City deli. This too was a gift from the West Coast. Ann, this is Mara: "You couldn't have done better!"

Hi Mara,
Good morning from Dhaka....
Glad to see you are doing better -- and taking it easy. Wise to sit it out for a day, just kick back, and try to regain some of your energy. I'm sure it's tempting to try to push yourself a bit, but sounds like a good idea to just relax a bit and let your body get its strength back
Hang in there, sweetie, we are really looking forward to seeing you soon. Our thoughts are with you!
Big hug,
Luke and Chris
Mara: It sounds like you are having a restorative, lazy Sunday and with that package from the deli, wow! That's just perfect.
Hope tomorrow is twice as good as today. Love, LizMcK
Hey Mara - sending you lots and lots of love via the power of the internet. And beaming in across the Brooklyn Bridge in Manhattan.
Susan gave me a mammoth tour of parts of the city today and I am completely knackered. But every time a leaf caught the breeze it made me think of you.
David - thanks for being so patient with me I really appreciate it - so so so so so glad that you are there with Mara.
Big HUGE hugs to everyone in the household.
Lots of love
Anna
Dear Mara,
I am all for taking it easy -- good for you to take the day and just do (or not do) what your body needs to do.
David/Carol, I've landed back in the States with all sorts of the goodies for Mara from the Circle of Love. Please let me know the address to overnight it to -- you can mail Aunt Mary's address to me at: cjdumas@worldnet.att.net
Lots of hugs and love, Mara,
Claudia
Hey all!
You are SO allowed to feel lousy -- you have a lot going on! Glad that you have a beautiful place to recuperate in with wonderful people to care for you and send you excellent lunches!
Hope that tomorrow is better, love, jmrr
Hi Mara,
It's good that you are taking it easy. It seems to be the season where all you hear is coughing and sneezing so better to stay away from all that.
I saw friends from sais earlier today and everyone has you in their thoughts and routing for you like crazy.
We just got back from the annual "boo in the zoo" trick or treating. They've redone a lot since I've last gone and nice to see the place shine again.
That hat is unbelievably adorable on you! Keep hydrating, rest and sleep well.
XOXOX.
Love,
Blanche
Hi sweetheart!
I was with Malin, Sudah (from my Bosch year) and Jeanene Lairo today at Jeanene's annual pumkin carving party. We spoke of you and everyone is sending good thoughts. I miss you tons and think of you every day. I hope you got the pixs I sent to your email address. Take care my sweet friend i'll send you a more personal update via email. Much love!!!! Aimee
Hi Mara,
I was so bummed to hear of your "setback" (like this whole thing ain't one big one!) but I am so happy to know you are feeling better and are spending cozy down time being so well cared for. Life goes on here with some glorious sunshine. I am sending you all my love. I can't wait to hear from Anna about your visit together. I am coming East to Boston on Thursday with Samson and unless you command me to come to NYC(which I will do in a heartbeat--I'm serious!), I will trust that you have enough going on and will continue to cheer you on from afar. You know you are in my heart 24/7 honey. Right there, under the silicone blobs. Love you tons. Your pal, Jo
Good morning, Mara! Sorry to have been out of touch -- I moved into my permanent housing over the weekend. It is a great place - I can't wait for you and David to come visit (and your mom, too! She is always welcome!). I hope this finds you feeling a better and stronger. My thoughts and prayers are with you, as always, Love, Rob
Mara,
The hat is fabulous--it looks like the one Ataturk wore throughout the 1920s! Keep on resting, keep on eating things like yogurt with bananas, and do drink a lot of plain mineral water (fizzy). You are definitely not missing much in the world. It is all the same old same old, and believe me, I say that as someone intimately involved with the news. We think and talk of you constantly, YOU are our news these days. Love you from Istanbul, J.
Hi Mara,
hope you ate lots of that lunch with buckets full of liquids with it. Take it easy...
Lots of love from us here,
Ems
Hi Mara
So wise to stay at home. Do exactly what your instincts tell you, and besides, we are not ready to catch any bug by all means.
Keep well and know that we are all praying for you and wishing you a SPEEDY RECOVERY.
Much love, hugs and kisses.
Maha
Mara, darling, hi, my beautiful! It's another day withyou in the cyber-space and feel so close! I can smell Carol's dinners, I can see you smile at David, I can see the falling leaves in the Park behind the window. I guess you feel as cozy as I imagine the idyllic picture at Aunt Mary's. Rest, my darling! Rest and recover sooner than we all expect!
All our love to you and many many hugs to you, David, you, Carol, and you, Aunt Mary!
XXX, Zlatna
Dearest Mara,
remember those very tiny streaw puppets you gave me once - the ones you are supposed to put under your pillow in order for wishes to come true? Using them on your behalf now. Kiara also has one with her as a small lucky charm, and she loves it.
Take good care, and listen to your inner voice.
Huge hug, and love from Berlin,
Sandra
Dear Mara and Carol -
Hello and many good thoughts from San Francisco. Alan, Lucy and I are keeping up with the blog every day. We know that Carol is a wonderful help for Mara, but we're concerned about Carol, too, and would love to get some news, if that's possible. Many thanks to the blogmeister and much, much love.
When I read that you had received the Murrays package - I felt as if I was there with you a bit - It brought me back to August when we had Murrays lunch at Aunt Mary's table together. I just held out my hand and gave you a big squezze. Of course the Jewish yenta in me has to feed you.
You know how hard it is for me to be rational and logical and not break every rule and be there with you - but I have a ticket ready as soon as I get the ok.
But the best thing is to just stay in bed, be pampered, and rest. Taking care of yourself is the only job you have now - and all of us have the job of loving and caring for you. My heart is so full of love and admiration for you.
I know this is tough - and so hard - you just get sick and tired of being a cancer patient.
But lets try to put a new spin on it, You are a magical princess. The doctors are your knights of the round table and the goal is to bring all the learned teachers of the relm to Camelot -slone kettering( I know Mary will love the royality angle) to help you pull the sword( the cancer) from your body. I've got an in with Merlin when we need him.
With all my love
Ann
Mara,
I was sending my strongest 'feel better' vibes this weekend...went camping this weekend, and the sky was so clear and the moon so full/bright, we had moonshadows. My first thought was, Gosh, I hope Mara is enjoying this, too.
Andrew (and DTK)
Mara,
Here's hoping you're getting lots of rest and building up your strength. Keep in mind how many people are thinking of you and sending healing vibes from every which corner...
Didi Cosentino
just sending a happy Monday note to you Mara and hoping you are feeling stronger today.
Anna
one more thing (Sorry)
David I don't have the address to send the card that I forgot to deliver too. Could you possibly mail it to me at
younganna71 (at) yahoo.co.uk
Thanks
Mara, I forgot to ask you this: will you make sure that David doesn't eat too much (lunch ;tea;elevenses;dinner;inbetweens) ?
I mean ...you know...we don't want an embonpoint (=big belly) already, do we ?
Thanks!!
love, Ems
Dear Mara,
We are so glad you are feeling better (but SO sorry you had to go back to the hospital)--and that you are making such good progress with your therapy!!
Tho't we'd pass on another, perhaps, anti-nausea idea--"Sea-Bands". They've helped us in travel and with nausea and are available at pharmacies, etc. and are worn on the wrists, using gentle accupressure.
Continuing to keep you and your family/helpers close in our thoughts and hearts,
Dick and Debby Galaty
Mara:
I marvel at your determination! Keep kicking this thing!
Lots of hugs and love from Texas,
Robbie
