A Seizure

Early yesterday evening Mara had a seizure. It was more than a fainting spell. It lasted at least a minute and caused Mara's leg to twitch. Once again Mara threw up everything in her stomach. Carol was alone at the house and called 911. An excellent emergency medical team picked them up and took them to Sloan-Kettering where Mara is now. Mara complained that she felt some numbness in her right foot. The Urgent Care unit was overrun with cases last night, so Mara patiently waited hours and hours before doctors could treat her and determine that she should remain at the hospital overnight.

The good news is that a CT scan showed no change since Saturday. The doctors said that under the circumstances it is not unusual for a patient to start to have seizures. Mara is comfortable now. She is getting anti-seizure medication, something that she will have to take for the rest of her life. Mara will stay at the hospital for the time being in order to get tests like an MRI and an EEG.

Dearest Mara, I'm so sorry to hear about this, but am glad that, as always, you have immediate access to fantastic medical care (well maybe "immediate" is pushing it given your hospital wait :)).

And Carol, this must have been scary for you. I just want to let you know I've been thinking about you a lot these last several weeks and am sending you lots of love and strength, too.

Love to all of you,
Julie (in Argentina)

Dearest Mara, David and Carol,
Despite little setbacks I have no doubts that Mara with her superpower strengths is winning this thing. I was in Florida with Malia to visit Mr. Ambassador and it was great seeing him. We were walking on the beach and sending love, and positive wibes ALL THE TIME. Dear, dear Mara, I can hardly wait to see you and talk to you in person. I know it will come soon. Please send the address of Aung Mary. I have a little something for you since Package of Love somehow missed me. In the meantime rest, eat organic, hydrate and get well sooooooooooooooon. LOVE Katarina and Fedja

Thinking of all of you right now and sending you strength. The last couple of days have been a bit stressful here, so I have thought of all of you as examples of grace and strength. I hope that your stay in the hospital is short, Mara, and that you are able to rest. We love you, JMRR

Dear Carol and David,

I'm so sorry to hear about the seizure! But then, out of numerous experiences - when my son was little he used to often have seizures (of course they were different kinds of it) - I remember a doctor saying that no matter what a seizure is caused by, it is always more scary to see than to actually go through it. So, let's stay on the alert but not panic.

Carol, dear, it must have been verry scary for you, though. Please, be strong, my dear, and try to get some rest, too. You, too, David! I can imagine what a tough time you are going through, but just keep praying and believing that our brave princess will win yet another fight!

I can never thank you enough, for sharing that with all of us on the blog! Please know, that Mara and all of you - her dear ones - are CONSTANTLY in our thoughts and prayers!

Sending you love, and hugs, and strength,

Zlatna, and the whole Bulgarian family.

Mara,
I'm so sorry to hear about the seizure. I called David this morning hoping for some good news and heard about it. I take solace in the fact that you are getting good care and that you are a fighter, but my heart also goes out to you due to the challenges that are consistently put before you. As I mentioned to David this morning, you will have a "welcome home" gift bag from us upon your return to Aunt Mary's house. As always, you are in our thoughts and prayers. xo, kristina

Hello Mara,
Ugh, it's must've been extradorinary stressfull being held up in the ER for hours on end just wanting someone to take care of you. Although it must not be easy being back in the hospital, at least you can get all the care that is needed without much delay. It's great that nothing new was found on the CT. You are all in my deepest thoughts all the time. I am so grateful for these updates, thank you so much.
With much love to you all,
Blanche

Dear Mara, As always, we are sending much love and positive energy your way. Seizures are scary (you might remember that Jon had them frequently for many years) but I also remember that they were scarier for us as observers than for him. Please keep your strength up knowing that all of us are with you in spirit. Miss you very much.

Love,
Eden & Steven
