Sunset viewed from Mara's apartment balcony in Amman Jordan
January 16, 2008 was the day Gil and I (her mother, Carol) left Jordan and, with the help of David the next day, we completed the closing of Mara's apartment and a wonderful chapter in her life. It was difficult and sad. Now Mara has become a truely international person, her home is in each of us around the world, in all of the cities she has visited, lived in and loved.

I returned to the blog after some time and spent time pondering each picture. I quite often have conversations with Mara in my head wondering how she would advise me on this or that. I wear the necklace that Deborah made whenever I know I am going to face a tough day and hold it for inspiration in difficult moments. I would do anything to be able to have one more conversation in person with her.
So serendipitous - I too, just returned to the blog today after several weeks away. I'm not sure exactly what made me feel Mara so strongly today, but I'm glad I did.
I have her star hanging in a place in my home office where I can easily see it. I cut out this part of the paragraph that came with it and pasted it onto the back of the star.
"This pendant is given in Mara's memory. It serves as a reminder to all of us to live life as purposefully as Mara did."
That is indeed how I will honor her memory.
Thank you David, for continuing to post photos of Mara. It feels good to remember her with pictures where she is whole, healthy and vital.
