SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2007
11:15 am -- INTERMENT -- Those who want to attend the interment of Mara’s ashes in the Columbaria at the Foreign Service Cemetery are welcome to drive to the cemetery and join the family for a short service (directions below)
5 to 8 pm -- AT HOME -- Mara’s family will be at home at 1910 S Street. Friends and family are invited to stop by.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2007
10 am -- COMMEMORATION -- Family and friends are invited to join the family for a Memorial Service and light refreshments at the Washington Hilton Hotel, on Connecticut Avenue and T Street NW. Parking is available across from the T Street entrance under the Universal Building. The Service will be held in the East Ballroom on the “C” concourse level. There are steps, escalators and slow elevators. It is easiest to reach the "C" concourse using the Hotel’s side entrance on T Street. The Hotel is on Connecticut Avenue to the north of the Red Metro line Dupont Circle stop. Take the Q Street Exit.

DIRECTIONS TO ROCK CREEK CEMETERY

The interment of Mara’s ashes will take place on Saturday, November 17, at 11:30 at the Foreign Service Cemetery in the Rock Creek Cemetery. Finding the grave site within the Cemetery is difficult, so all who want to join the family are invited to be at the Main Office of the Cemetery by 11:15.

The location of the Foreign Service Rock Creek Cemetery is just off North Capital Street across from what has been called “The Old Soldiers Home.” There are several ways to get there if you know Washington. However for those who do not I have put the easiest directions below starting from the Washington Hilton Hotel. Those coming from the North can use a map, or map quest, and plug into the directions below.

FROM: Dupont Circle, Washington Hilton, Connecticut Avenue and T Street, NW.
TO: Rock Creek Cemetery, Rock Creek Church Rd & Webster St NW, Washington, DC
TIME/DISTANCE: Takes 20 to 35 minutes depending on traffic/distance 7.5 miles.

1. Drive North on CONNECTICUT AVENUE NW for 3.0 miles
-- Past the ZOO, the Uptown Theater, Van Ness St. and the University of the DC,
-- At the next light after the light at the top of a hill at Fessenden and
Connecticut
2. Turn Right on NEBRASKA AVENUE for 0.4 of a mile
3. Make a Soft Right Turn on MILITARY ROAD at the intersection of 3 roads at the
second stop light and continue on Military Road for 2.2 miles
-- After 1 mile Utah Avenue crosses Military Road and becomes a winding dual
parkway.
-- After you go under 16th Street and then pass 13th Street, Military ends in
Georgia Avenue
4. At GEORGIA AVENUE take a quick jog (right and immediate left), here Military
becomes MISSOURI AVENUE. Continue on Missouri for 1.1 miles
5. Make a Right on NORTH CAPITAL Street and continue for 0.5 of a mile
6. Stay Right on CHURCH ROAD when North Capital goes left and continue for 0.3 of a
mile
7. Turn Right into the Cemetery Gates at the top of the hill just yards past the
light at Harewood Road.
8. Turn Right immediately and stop there at the Main Office.
