Saturday Pictures

Carol took the photos posted yesterday, as well as the first two of these pictures. We had some giddy moments yesterday. With Mara for the first time allowed out of bed, Elise climbed into her bed. Carol took Mara for her second "walk around the block" before she returned to Washington.

Mara,

The updates and photos from the past two days have been truly wonderful and have made our days. Your spirit and determination shine through -- but, then, we always knew you are a woman of true grit!!

We're cheering for you and send our love to you, Carol, Elise, Dave and David always,

Charlotte and Jon

Mara, you are gorgeous! These pictures made our day - we keep checking the blog every hour for the daily posting. (We are 10 hours ahead of you, after all....) We were just talking about you with friends here. I'm sending you a quick update on your email and will cc Elise too. Thinking of you constantly!
Love,
Luke and Chris

Wow Mara, fantastic!

Thank you to David, Dave, Carol, Elise for all of the updates and photos. It has meant a great deal to a huge amount of people - all of us otherwise would be letting our imaginations run wild.

Mar, I know this absolutely sucks. Stay strong and brave but don't be afraid to chuck something against the wall once in a while...as long as it isn't connected to you (i.v. bag, whatever). Didn't you have some soft ball with a swearing computer chip inside? If I were in the States I'd get one for your 'love package' (is that what we're calling it? sounds very saucy...)

Sending you lots and lots of love,
Kristina, Terry, Heike

Hey Mara, seeing these pictures makes me really happy! David's Auntie is completely amazing.

Get onto Facebook, too, why don't you, it is the latest thing! I told Elise about it, she is sceptical. You can be my friend, can I be yours? I bet you will have many many. But keep the blog too.

It is a joy to see Mara's genuine smile. I love seeing David's smile too. Who wouldn't smile looking into Mara's joyful face? Can't wait to meet David. Loved speaking to you, Carol today. I too am cheering you all and sending love,

Oh Mara, David, everyone--the photos are spectacular! Your smiles just leap out of the computer screen into our hearts and spread all over the house, making our Sunday! It's true (as someone said) while we're all trying to find the track, you're already on the train. Thank you for this fantastic update.

mara, so happy to see you smiling...and walking around the block. :) today i visited to two serbian monestaries, the decani monestary and the pec patriarche. i thought i would tell you about it, since it is so similar to the gorgeous monestaries of bulgaria. in decani, you have a large candle burning as a symbol of my many prayers. in pec, i prayed for you before the most famous icon of mary in all of serbia -- and lit a candle too. this was certainly the highlight of my trip.... xo, kristina

Mara, darling, these pictures feel as if you've just had a nap and now you're all awake and radiant, happy to see your loved ones by your side! The pictures look so naturally, truly you, that for a moment I thought it is just another mail note we are exchanging! I hope you feel the way you look. I hope that for all the dear ones around you, to whom I send my deepest respect, love and gratefulness!

Walk, my darling, walk! Heal and get better! I'm sure you're ever so close to getting the same old you!

All my love, and all my positive energy to you all, guys! With all of you there, this ICU looks quite a fun place to stay at:):):)

Hi Mara,
just got off the phone with david, who wanted to post a picture on this blog but lost/couldn't find a cable...well.
anyway: great pictures, but no more electrodes...(bye the way: do they have them in pink or a nice shadowy blue ?? much more becoming..)
Anyway: Dutch huggs !!!
and love! (And silly remarks to David) (like: will you tell her she's a truttebol)
Did he tell you that? Before giving the hug, I mean..
Let's all keep a sharp outlook on things...

Some of our K, and 2nd grade kids as
well as all of the ESL children I service here at Starrett Elementary in Arlington, Texas made cards for you some of which Carol will bring from Washington and others your Aunt Mary will deliver. You are loved by people from all parts of this globe!
We are so proud of you and your determination! I am reminded of a shepherd that later became king of Israel said: "even though I walk through the valley of the dark shadow of death You O Lord are with me guarding and guiding all the way along." Ps 23

We love you,

Robbie

Hey, Mara,
Don't know if you remember me, I'm Robert's pal Lauren from DC ... think I last saw you at one of my magazine parties here? Anyway, Robert shared your story in one of his "Notes from Cairo" and I just wanted to tell you how much support you have from all over the world. I am certainly thinking of you, as if my husband Ben (who fought adrenal carcinoma, now into his sixth year post-chemo). There is nothing to sugarcoat when it comes to this kind of battle ... but your bravery is a fierce weapon, as fierce as they come. And if God hears our thoughts, I suspect he's been listening to many these last few days about you, on both sides of the globe. Hang in there and tap into the collective strength of all who know and care for you -- and you'll be very strong, indeed.

Dear Mara,
Amazing -- but then we all know you are amazing! I go out for the morning, come back in the evening, and there you are smiling and chugging along the hall. These photos made my day. Keep going, but also give yourself that rest and recovery your body needs.
Love and hugs,
Claudia
PS Ems and Zlatna, saw your posts about sending things to the hotel.
