The forgotten pictures and story!

We are back from a fabulous weekend and there will be some major posts of hair loss and family! Actually, that should be the other way around. The story which I was telling at the end of my last blog was that upon doing my manicure, Lyuba looked at the healing burn scar on my arm and gasped -- what's that? I explained my clumsiness with the tea cup. Lyuba was excited and slightly agitated. "But, Mara, it looks just like an eye! Don't you see it? It has the pupil and everything!" Thus, Lyuba pointed out that I had successfully and fortuitously branded MYSELF with permanent protection from the evil eye. I am now SO pleased with myself -- I hope it heals to look just like an eye! All you Uzbeks and Turks out there -- what do you think? I attach the photo -- and the more it heals the better it looks!

I will post more very soon!

Hola Mara,I say, Go Lyuba!
"permanent protection from the evil eye."
If that's what she saw in your healing burn and immediately said it, her impression contains some truth.
Maybe it's your protective eye staring down the evil eye.
"An eye for an eye" as they say.
And yours is stronger and winning...And that's how it goes.
Love to you, Robin H

P.S.Something a ittle strange or should I say synchronistic, just happened as I was posting my first blog to you here. Then I had to fill out the Google registry and I had to copy and type in the scribbly word they give you.
And the word was "EYEdir" Woahhh!

Hey, Mara,
I've been waiting for your pop-up-story and pictures for ever! Finally, they're here! I open the blog and the first thing I see is... an EYE! Boy, do I believe in signs like this one!!! It was only AFTER that I realized it was your burn-scar!
I'm so glad you are having that great a time! Go, darling, go! Hugs to David and you have a great day! One more radiation? What about the wonderful acupunctures? I hope you're not done with them? Lots of hugs and kisses from all of us, the Bulgarian part of the "Mara-circle". Love, Zlatna

P.S. I think you've spoilt us all, members of the Mara circle, by setting the tune for our day - we all, I'm sure everyone on that blog check their mail every single morning - to "talk" to you and exchange good vibes and energy with you! Don't miss a day, please! Z.

Mara, I love your blog. How 21st century! But even more I love your positive attitude, your curiosity, your willingness to share. The eye is definitely a good sign! When it's healed, you can add eyeliner for drama and extra protection. Here's to the good guys, may their victory be swift. Lots of love-
Laurie

How crazy is that? What a wild transformation from the initial war wound. I hope the winding down of radiation will bring great things. Love and a big hug, Blanche

Hai Mara, i'm jeroen with the broken ankle and i sent you my greetings after "doing time" in the hospital. I know that you're in and out of it(hospital) and that's better i believe. Are you hanging in there, is David doing his outmost? He're the other Mees is doing too. Baking, letting the dogs out, pushing my wheel-chair in to the sea and forrest. My days consist of reading, playing the piano, sleeping etc. Not much exiting things to do. I have seen your apparatus with the low frequency radiation. Wow, how futuristic. Well i say hello to you and David and keeo the spirit up.. much love from jeroen and ems.

Mara -- I love reading these every day. Often, Miles will be sitting on my lap and we talk about this wonderful woman who is in NY right now and on my "TV" (he calls my computer my TV). We greet you everyday.

The "eye" gave me an opportunity to pull out of the "eyes" I collected over the years and tell him about it and how it is protecting us...and you.

Thank you for sharing with us. We send our love.

Hello darling,

Time for another entry from west coast Jewish mother ;-). So glad you got to the end of the story! I was reading away on Friday, and really wanted to see how it came out. Yes, a good manicure (pedicure for moi) with a GOOD MANICURIST is like finding a perfect, perfect jewel. I've been going to the same woman for the last 8 years, and if she ever quits, I'll shoot myself. Of course, this being Portland, she isn't ethnic, but she's earthy and grounded and swears like a sailor, so I feel right at home with her. It's like having an extra therapy session every month ;-).

I do love how the burn is healing - although too bad it didn't turn into a hamsin ;-). Still, an actual protective eye is worth something, eh? I love the suggestion your friend Laura made about adding eye make-up to it. It will be a wonderful battle scar.

Like everyone else, I absoluely love reading your blog - you are an excellent writer, really vivid, and I can "see" pictures in my head when I read what you've written (always a sign of a great writer). I love to read everyone's loving good wishes to you too. It is indeed a wonderful way to start off any day.

Keep up your spirits, bubeleh. I know this ain't easy sometimes on a daily basis (I have a husband who's been in extremely ill health from one thing or another for the last 2 1/2 years, so I've been in the "David" seat for a while now). But you are doing an incredible job at it. Keep getting those manicures (and massages, I hope, and acupuncture, and anything else to assuage and comfort your body and mind).

Love, Lisa

Dobry den! Was yesterday your last treatment, or is that today? How's the Telly Savales costume coming along for Halloween? Or, you could be 'Lola,' Disney teen pop idol Miley Cyrus / Hannah Montanta's sidekick, who wears a purple wig.

Did you get the email with the scanned picture, or the one with the Ramones song? Did either help?

Dear Mara, I feel terrible that I have taken so long to write to you. (I am better at telephones, but I understand when I see how many friends you have why you would be in a state of collapse if you had to talk to each one of us. Whoever thought of the blog was a real friend. I want to tell you, Mara, that I have enjoyed reading the blog because I hear in your words a real Maisel attitude: no matter what life holds in the future, all each of us can do is get the most out of the present. At fifteen Grandpa Maisel left the shtetle of Breschenkovich and arrived in New York City (not Ellis Island)to make his way. Less than 30 years later his daughter, Rose, graduated from Radcliffe. Grandpa offered lots of advice with lots of stories to go with them, but the stories were all of his good life and wonderful travels as they were happening. We all built memories to last. Take good care of yourself, and keep finding some fun each day. (Kate complained to me that she had a real problem. All her friends had to do to please their parents was to get good grades. She was suposed to have fun.) My love to you. Susan (that's Buffalo Susan who was there when your mother was born.)
