Better This Morning

This morning, Mara looks around, smiles, and even speaks a bit. Her headache is still there - no surprise - but she feels less pain than last night. She was not on painkillers for most of the night. The night went well, but she did become nauseous when she was being moved: last night for a CT scan, this morning to be washed. She threw up a bit. When we see her, once every two hours, we keep her lips wet with a "lollipop" (tiny sponge on a stick). Dave and Elise initiated a brushing of the teeth so her mouth is fresh and Mara can show off her beautiful teeth. Carol will go in the room with her this morning when she is having her MRI done, to hold her ankle when she is in the machine. We are feeling encouraged.

Hi Mara I could not go to bed last night until I heard the news of your operation. And what good news I heard! Mike also had surgery yesterday to repair a herniated disc, so between the two of you, I was in prayerful meditation all day. Keep smiling, keep swimming.........we love you!

We have been checking the blog every hour here in Dhaka (10 hour time difference -- ugh!) to hear how things are going, and were so happy to hear the latest. We'll be holding on to your other ankle in spirit, Mara!

Love,
Chris and Luke

If the ankles are taken, I'll grab the big toe. I know you can't move in those blasted things so I promise not to tickle you.

Good morning Mara! I love the lollipop sponge idea. Can't wait to hear more. XXXOOO LizM

Dear Mara,

I'm Mireille. You lived in my Apartment in Berlin while I was in Taiwan.

Liliana has informed me. I would have liked to hear about you in a happy circumstance...

When I se your pics, you have not changed at all in 10 years, except for the hair.

Sincerely, I am impressed to see the self-assurance and pride in your eyes. Not many are so tough in this situation.

I wish you further keep so tough and pray for you to go through this horrible time.

Mireille

Mara, since ankles & toes are spoken for during the scan, I'll send a mental neck and shoulder massage, post CT.
Kristina, please send me your address in Holland & I'll send you my little addition to the global packet --am in L.A. but leaving Tuesday for Stamboul, too late to be in on Julia's package. Delia asked me to include a little amuletic something from her too, so that adds Chicago to the mix & if I can this off today it should be to you by Tuesday...
Love & heartfelt wishes to all those assembled around Mara today!

Dear Mara and David,

What a relief that the operation went according to plan. We are glad you are together now.

Amazing that during such a difficult period a close network of friends and family can follow every step and is thinking of you all the time. You have to fight this struggle yourself. But you are being carried by all your loved ones, a worldwide web of angels.

Julia says: Hi Mara, Veel liefs and please do much sleeping in the hospital. I will draw a rose for you and send it.

Much love from Sigrid, Jonathan, Julia and Rosa

Dear Mara,

You are so amazing and courageous! I am praying for you and thinking of joining Luke in shaving solidarity...but it's a bit cold here in Budapest...

Your blog entries are so buoyant and vibrant! I am mystified at how you can make so many people laugh and smile in the midst of your own struggle.

You are in my prayers. Sending you big hugs and lotsa love,

(I posted this on the previous page by mistake first) OK, I know it's maybe strange to start using Mara's blog to address other people, but Mara, it's all for you babes, so please excuse. Zlatna: the package is on the way to you, it will arrive in Sofia on Tuesday. From there, I know both Kristina M. in Rotterdam and Ems, David's cousin, want to get in on it. And then to Charlie in Ireland....but Zlatna, you need to coordinate the next move!! I love that we are weaving this web from here. Mara, as Saturday morning dawns here in Turkey, I hope you are sleeping comfortably in New York, and that healing has set in. Love you endlessly,
J.

Hi, Mara, my dearest! Hi, David! Hi, everyone on this blog! It's a fall morning in Bulgaria and it's probably just Julia and I being in that time-zone, awake and starting the daily energy stream to go Mara's way. I hope she is peacefully sleeping and resting, feeling no pain, only to wake up stronger and smiling! I pray for that to be the case! I'm sure each one of us on the blog, plus scores of people around us, do the same!

On a more practical note, Ems, I need your full postal address, dear, since it's you I'm going to send the get-well-soon international package on to.

Now, a technical question to everyone: Do you think I can put up a picture of Mara (taken when she was on my radio show a year and a half back) on this blog? Or, can I add to this blog a very short MP3-piece from the show, where Mara is speaking excellent Bulgarian (you know how fluent she is in so many languages!) - I think you'll all enjoy listening to her go on in our exotic language. If you can give me a hand, technically, I'd appreciate it .

So glad to hear the good news. Hope the scan went well. Mara, the kids made some cute pictures to send you to brighten up wherever you are in two weeks. I will contact AID to find an address in the states for you. David, you rock, my friend. Ems, can I send a gift for the package to Mara to you at the address here on the blog? Cheers, and I hope everyone continues to do well. Diane, I hope that Mike's back is doing well, also. Smiles from Jennifer, Matt, Radhika and Rhys
